BURN FAT WITH INTERVAL TRAINING

BURN FAT WITH INTERVAL TRAINING

I love interval training. Not only does it break up the monotony of cardio training at the gym, but it also burns calories and fat much faster than other cardio exercises. Interval training consists of repeated intervals of relatively high intensity followed by a longer interval of low intensity. You can use interval training with any of the cardio equipment found at gyms; treadmill, elliptical machine, stair climber or the stationary bike.
Here is my sample interval routine that I incorporate into my cardio exercises. I do these one /two times per week to put some oomph into my training.
On the Stationary Bike:
5 Minutes: Level 1-4: Warm Up
30 seconds: Level 10 at above100 rpm
1:30 minutes: Level 1 at above 80 rpm
30 seconds: Level 10 at above100 rpm
1:30 minutes: Level 1 at above 80 rpm
30 seconds: Level 11 at above 100 rpm
1:30 minutes: Level 1 at above 80 rpm
30 seconds: Level 12 at above100 rpm
1:30 minutes: Level 1 at above 80 rpm
30 seconds: Level 13 at above 100 rpm
1:30 minutes: Level 1 at above 80 rpm
Repeat the hi-low intensity intervals 5 more times and then cool down for 5 minutes.
Your total workout time should be 30 minutes.
My goal is to get 10 sessions of high-low intensity intervals (10/10) with a 5 minute warm up and cool down. If you are just beginning you must work up to the 10/10. I suggest you try to get to 5/5 and increase by one every successive workout.
By adding interval training to your workouts, you will burn more calories, increase your aerobic capacity and you’ll add variety to your cardio workouts.

In order to get me through my cardio workouts I always Funk Jet Fuel Formula.
Infinit Nutrition and Funk Roberts have created a few workout formulas, to help you with you workout before, during and after. Try this Formula before your next cardio session.

Funk Climbs the CN Tower in Recorded Time

I never thought in a million years that I would walk up the CN Tower. I’ve visited the beast quite a few times; as a kid, a teenager and a father. Travelling up the elevator your mind thinks, “I can’t believe fools climb the stairs of this thing...they must crazy.”

As I get older though, there are more challenges I would love to conquer. As a father, there is no better feeling than having your children look up to you, like you’re a true Super Human Hero.

It also gives them ammo to brag about their Pops to the crew, which of course will move them up the ladder of respect.

When the opportunity came to climb the stairs of the CN Tower, one of the world’s tallest free standing structures, and raise money for WWF Canada at the same time, I couldn’t pass it up.

I participated in the Team Challenge with Workopolis. I didn’t know my teammates at first, but this gave us a chance to bond.

There were three of us climbing, Merv, our resident boxer, runner and all around amazing guy; Jack, the veteran, who has made the climb before and me.

My strategy was to just get up the 144 FLOORS without stopping, no matter what time. Their strategy; break the record of 07:52 which was set in 1989 by Brendan Keenoy. GOOD LUCK!

As we edged closer our excitement grew. We had digested our Jet Fuel Funk Formula from Infinit Nutrition, so we were anxious to reach the top. When we reached the start, the resident CN Tower climber gave us his words of wisdom “Pace yourselves boys, this is not a race. You don’t want to burn out” and we’re off!

I ran up the first 5 floors not knowing what to expect and then quickly realized if I wanted to climb 144 floors I had better pace myself. Once you entered the stairway there was no turning back. There are no doors where you can let yourself out. There are no windows where you can view Toronto’s beautiful skyline. There is no secret escape hatch where those who have to TAP out can leave

ONCE YOU ENTER, THE ONLY WAY OUT IS AT THE TOP!

We did have the amazing folks of the Toronto EMS, giving us encouragement on every 20 floors and ensuring our safety.

As I paced up the stairs, it seemed to become easier. Mentally I was focused and my rhythm seemed flawless. The higher I climbed, I saw more people stopping to catch their breath on the landings. And I can’t forget about the floors with the puke in the corners.

At one point, around floor 75, It became so easy. I just concentrated on my routine...walked up each step, and when I got to the landing, walked along the outside railing. It was great...as I got closer; I started to get excited, knowing that there were 30...then 20...then 10 floors left. I wanted to Sprint to the finish, but there were just too many people.

3...2...1...I DID IT...I climbed the CN Tower.

I pass it every day on the way to work. I use it as a landmark. I used to take visiting beach volleyball pros to it. Gosh, my MOM saw it being built.

AND I CLIMBED IT!

As I walked out of the stairwell, there were a plethora of cameras and people cheering your accomplishment. I felt like I was walking the RED CARPET at the Oscars and I milked every minute of it.

Our times you ask?

Our team was ranked 57th out 283 and overall there were 1745 individual climbers in the Team Challenge 57. Workopolis (00:19:55)

Mervin Atmosfera 00:17:51 – Individual 351
Jack Gawen 00:19:08 – Individual 446
Funk Roberts 00:22:37 – Individual 926

ANATOMY OF A SPORTS DRINK

Funk Roberts Fitness and INFINIT Nutrition are currently in the labs creating four sports drink formulas that will give you the edge on the competition and help you reach your fitness training goals.

Here is some information to help you learn about how sports drinks affect your performance.

Osmolality is a term used to describe the concentration of particles dissolved in a solution. It is a measure of density and is expressed in units of measurement known as osmoles or milliosmoles (one thousandth of an osmole), per 1000g of solvent, or mosm/kg. The more particles a rehydration beverage contains (such as carbohydrate, electrolytes, amino acids, anti-oxidants, protein or flavoring), the higher its osmolality.

Optimal absorption of fluids within the body happens when a sports drink solution is equal in terms of osmolality to what naturally occurs in the body. The osmolality of our body’s own fluids are approx 300mosm/kg water and are regulated by the intrinsic mechanisms within our own system.

Fluids supplied with osmolality above 300mosm/kg, (i.e. hypertonic solutions), cause not only delays in gastric emptying but also more importantly will cause fluid shifts from the body to the gut before absorption occurs. Such delays in rehydration introduce the real potential to delay and reduce performance. (Alonso, 1998, Hargreaves, 1991, Sowka et al, 2000).

Solutions that are isotonic, (having the same osmolality as our own body fluids), are without this effect. Solutions, which are marginally hypotonic, (that is are below the osmolality of the body), are known to be emptied quickly from the stomach and have the potential to be absorbed the most rapidly. (Leiper, 1998) As the osmolality of your sports drink increases above 300 mosmol/kg, efficient uptake from the GI tract is decreased. In fact, solutions with high osmolalities (hypertonic) can actually draw fluid out of the body.

For the everyday person, this is not a problem. However, for athletes who are turning over large volumes of fluids and electrolytes, it could literally mean life or death. (Or, perhaps at the least, finishing instead of a DNF).

Osmo-fit is a Patent Pending Process that automatically calculates the osmolality of your personal race drink guaranteeing that is will easily digest and give you the results you are looking for.

INFINIT Nutrition's patent pending process that ensures your unique formulation will work for your body.

Osmolality is a measure of how much “stuff” is in your sports drink. If there is too much “stuff” your drink will be too dense and your body will treat it like a food. The unfortunate result: Failure. Your system shuts down and stops processing it, resulting in gastric distress, cramping, and worse.

Controlling osmolality is the key to the effectiveness of any sports drink. You can have the best ingredients in the world but if they are too highly concentrated, or the mix is wrong, you might as well be trying to compete while eating a cheeseburger.

InfinIT Nutrition is the only company that allows you to have everything that you need in one sports drink and Guarantees (link to guarantee) the osmolality and performance of your custom formulation. You can have the taste you want plus all of the calories, electrolytes, and protein you need AND guaranteed success with infinIT's Osmo-Fit ™ System.
