HOLIDAY BODYWEIGHT WORKOUT - VIDEO

HOLIDAY BODYWEIGHT WORKOUT

This is a workout that I do every holiday season.  It great for guys and gals.

I love this workout because it works strength and conditioning while helping to burn calories.  The workout target your entire body, using your body as the resistance, which is one of the best ways to build total strength.

Bodyweight exercises increase strength, endurance and flexibility in your entire body and when done in a circuit workout, helps to burn fat fast

There are three levels,
Beginner 325 reps,
Intermediate 650 reps
Challenge 1000 reps (my favourite)

Try this workout during the holiday season and you will not feel like you missed a beat.

THINK ABOUT THIS EQUATION THOUGHTS + EMOTION + ACTION = RESULTS

post by Davelle Morrison

So what is this equation really about?

It’s a concept introduced to me by Bob Proctor in The Expressions of Your Power CD. It can help you to achieve a healthy active lifestyle.

Notice how your positive or negative thoughts guide you throughout your day to make good or bad decisions. Remember what you put into your body mentally is just as important as what you put into your body nutritionally.

Changing your thinking to be positive around health, fitness & nutrition will lead you to have a happy emotion associated with a healthy body.

That positive emotion will lead you to start acting on your vision of a healthy lifestyle which in turn will lead you to achieving the results that you want with a life more focused on health, nutrition & fitness.

What you feed your mind is extremely important. Meditation can play a crucial role here as you learn to take at least 10 minutes of silence everyday where you simply sit and breathe. Develop positive sayings which can re-enforce the positive energy around you.

My positive thoughts & emotions around health & fitness have now lead me toward achieving my goals of a healthy body. Think of organizing (your action) your week on a calendar so that you can ensure that you have time for meditation, yoga, workouts & healthy food preparation.

A little organization will go a really long way in helping you to achieve your Fit, Firm ‘n Fab goals.

I set aside Sunday evenings to prepare fruits & vegetables in 5 containers for each day of the week to ensure that I eat healthy everyday at the office. I also prepare my lunches for the week at that time.

My results are incredible. For the 2-3 hours of time I’ve put in, I’ve not only saved myself at least $100/week ($400 a month & $3,600/year!), I’ve saved myself a ton of calories in the process which helps to keep my weight down. A great result indeed!

See what you can do to help your positive thoughts & emotions lead you to act and gain better results.

TRAINING SESSION WITH RHET - FIRST WEEK - BAD QUALITY

TRAINING SESSION WITH RITT

This is bad quality as it is from a phone.  this was my first week at Tiger Muay Thai.  Funny to look at it now and to see my progress.  This was after one hour of one on one pad work and it was supposed to be 3 minute round.  These fools need a GYM BOSS - enjoy and yes I know it's bad quality.
NO NEED TO COMMENT ON THE QUALITY!

BIG BUDDAH TRIP - NOVEMBER 12

BIG BUDDAH (GIANT BUDDAH)

Time and again we have seen that faith can overcome apparently impossible hardships and that the power of the human spirit can triumph against seemingly insurmountable odds. Often, this manifestation of fortitude is interpreted as a miracle; something that seemed impossible only a short time ago but that has now come to pass. Such is the case now in Phuket with the arrival of the Big Buddha, or to give it its proper name, “Prahputtamingmongkol Eaknakakeeree” – “The Supremely Auspicious Buddha of Nakkerd Hill”

Travel anywhere to the south of Phuket City, look up at the ridge of hills running down the centre of the island and you will see a towering monument under construction right at the top.
This is the Giant Buddha, as it is known locally, which is destined to become a local landmark and a place for both tourists and devout Buddhists to visit.

ROYCE GRACIE VS FUNK ROBERTS

AMAZING QUESTION AND ANSWER PERIOD
EVERYONE WILL LEARN FROM THIS!

The “The BJJ Master” and UFC hall of Fame fighter Royce Gracie at Tiger Muay Thai and MMA on Nov 11, 2009.  Royce is one of the all-time greats in MMA in the UFC and has brought Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu to the forefront of the sport of Mixed martial Arts.  Royce was inducted into the UFC Hall of Fame as one of the all-time great champions.

WHAT IS BRAZILIAN JIU JITSU (BJJ)

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is a martial art and combat sport that focuses on grappling and ground fighting. It was derived from the Japanese martial art of Kodokan Judo in the early 20th century, which was itself then a recently-developed system (founded in 1882), based on multiple schools (or Ryu) of Japanese jujutsu.

Possibly the premier ground-fighting martial art. Made famous by Royce Gracie in the early UFCs in the mid-1990's, it specializes in submission grappling when both fighters are on the ground. Techniques include positional control (especially the "guard" position), and submissions such as chokes and arm locks.

WHO IS ROYCE GRACIE

Royce Gracie is a professional mixed martial arts fighter, a UFC Hall of Famer and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu practitioner. He holds the most submission victories in UFC history with 11, which he earned between UFC 1 and UFC 4.

Gracie became a larger than life figure in the mixed martial arts world for his domination in the Ultimate Fighting Championship. He became famous for beating opponents much larger than him, and between 1993 and 1994, he was the tournament winner of UFC 1, UFC 2, UFC 4, and fought to a draw with Ken Shamrock in the championship match in the Superfight at UFC 5. [2] Gracie popularized Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and revolutionized mixed martial arts with his results contributing to the movement towards grappling and cross-training in the sport.

SOME ACCOMPLISHMENTS

His largest opponent yet was Sumo Grand Champion Akebono, 6' 8" 486lbs. Royce vs. Akebono was the main event of K-1 Premium Dynamite New Years Eve show on 12/31/2004. Royce defeated the giant in just 2min and 13sec with a shoulder lock. Royces success has opened the eyes of many disbelievers

to the importance of leverage and technique in grappling. In November of 2003, Royce Gracie was the first fighter to be inducted into the UFC Hall of Fame along with fellow UFC veteran Ken Shamrock.

His list of students is enormous. Royce has taught many of the big screen greats like Chuck Norris, Ed ONeal, Guy Ritchie and Nicholas Cage. He has also been very active with the CIA, FBI, DEA, Secret Service, Army Rangers, Army Special Forces, Navy Seals and many sheriff and police departments.

FUNK IS FIGHTING IN THAILAND

I have made it to Thailand, but wanted to start this documentary of my trip with a brief history of how I got here from teh beginning.  it's brief.  The videos will follow.

It takes a bit to upload vids here.  If anyone has suggestions on quicker way (currently I am using my Carl Zies 100 yr old camera then Windows Movie Maker and then uploading to computer and then to Youtube and then here TO THE BLOG but it takes forever1 - remember I am in Thailand so if you leave a suggestion THINK BEFORE YOU WRITE)

MY BREIF HISTORY

Sawasdee,

The time has finally come for the Funkster’s life awaited trip to Thailand to train Muay Thai at one the world’s most renowned training facility, Tiger Muay Thai and MMA Centre. (TMT)

It has been a dream for almost 20 years, not something that I made public, but most important, for me it was one of those dreams that I always wanted to do, dreamed about, even replayed scenarios in mind, with me being the lead actor.

Well it is happening; I’m going to Thailand to train in Muay Thai. My decision to make the dream reality came over the summer, while I was told that I had all this vacation time and should use it. IN the past, I would take a day here or there, while other would take weeks at a time.

Well I put my foot down and said to myself I am going somewhere this year. I didn’t have to dig to deep inside me to figure out TMT in Thailand was my destiny.

WHAT IS MUAY THAI?

Muay Thai - Thai Boxing) is a form of hard martial art practiced in large parts of the world, including Thailand and other Southeast Asian countries. Muay Thai has a long history in Thailand and is the country's national sport. Traditional Muay Thai practiced today varies significantly from the ancient art muay boran and uses kicks and punches in a ring with gloves similar to those used in Western boxing.

Muay Thai is referred to as "The Art of Eight Limbs", as the hands, shins, elbows, and knees are all used extensively in this art. A practitioner of Muay Thai ("nak muay") thus has the ability to execute strikes using eight "points of contact," as opposed to "two points" (fists) in Western boxing and "four points" (fists, feet) used in the primarily sport-oriented forms of martial arts. A practitioner of Muay Thai, who is not of Thai nationality or race, is known as a Falang Nak Muay (foreign boxer).

THE ONK BLAK STORY

Funk Muay Thai History

I’ll keep this very brief. I started training Muay Thai in 1991 in of all placed the Beaches, Toronto – hahaha – it wasn’t very popular than, but this place opened 8 stores down from Overkill, the place I was working at the time.

What the hell was a Muay Thai gym opening up in Toronto’s most WASPish community? I didn’t care, I just went, I saw weights, punching bags and martial arts, and I was there.

Kru Ed and Ching ran a tight ship and the 10 or so students that went were great. I want to give props to Andrew Balodis for being my fellow SHOUTH PAW and holding the pads.

It was the birth of ONG BLAK. Day in and Day out, before work and after work, Marc “the Truth” Roberts (that was my moniker back then) trained to fulfill his destiny. To become a Muay Thai fighter and ONG BLAK my way to the boxing rings of Thailand

Fortunately Professional Beach Volleyball took off that year for me and Muay Thai was put on the back burner to wither away.

MUAY THAI 2008 - THE RETURN OF THE ONG BLAK.

I was living in Riverdale and was on a stroll one day and happened to stumble on MMA Club. “What, MMA Club in Riverdale, of all places.” When I saw this place only steps from Chez Funk, destiny was calling once again and it was time to dawn the thai shorts, gloves and start training again.

Gym owner Eric Miller opened my eyes to the sport I loved from a youth and I was back training again, until the dreaded accident.

In November 2008, I broke my hand and shattered my metacarpal bones in my left hand. I had two surgeries over the next 2 months. (thank you to Dr Zorn for putting Humpty Funk’s hand back together again).

But the road to recovering over the next 4-5 months would be painful, not only because I couldn’t work out, but NO MORE MUAY THAI and once again the dream was shelved.

COMEBACK OF ONG BLAK

After countless pressuring from two colleagues at work, Funk was back in the Muay Thai gym, this time at Toronto Kickboxing and Muay Thai Academy (TKMT).

What an awesome gym and the trainers and atmosphere was comfortable. Talk about 360 degrees, the owner Warren Lee, actually used to come to the Muay Thai gym in the beaches when he was in high school.

Talk about crazy!

It was June 2009 when I decided that I was going to pursue my dream of traveling to Thailand to train in the best facility.

Talking to a few people around the gym, the one thing that was consistent from all of them was that I was going to have to be in tip top shape just so I can get the most of the training that I was going to embark on in Thailand.

So, not only did I continue training at TKMT, but stepped it up my going back to MMA club and started running (I HATE RUNNING)

I conducted a tonne of research and stayed focus with my goal and here we are November 6, 2009 and I am ready for blast off

I soon started to get back into a two day per week training schedule and after attending an in-house fight, I set a goal to increase my training. To 3-4 days a week.

Between TKMT and MMA Club, I was preparing myself that lie ahead

My trainers and partners have been great.
